ABOUT US

Community Housing Solutions provides home repairs to homeowners in Guilford County, supporting neighbors and neighborhoods. With a skilled construction staff and volunteer groups from the community, we work with homeowners who fall below specific income levels to make needed repairs making their homes warmer, drier and safer.

WE SUPPORT NEIGHBORS BY:

PROVIDING SAFE AND DECENT HOUSING
Serving low-income homeowners who cannot physically do the work themselves nor financially afford a contractor, repairs done by CHS make provide better, healthier homes for families to live in.

PRESERVING ASSETS
The majority of people we serve are elderly, disabled, or single parent homeowners who have a limited or fixed income.  Their home is their largest asset and a source of financial stability for each family.  CHS seeks to help them maintain that asset, enhancing their housing stability.

HELPING PEOPLE STAY IN THEIR HOMES LONGER
More than half of our homeowners are elderly or disabled and their housing needs are changing or have changed.  CHS provides accessibility modifications including access ramps, grab bars, levered door handles, toilets that meet standards for the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other modifications that allow homeowners to move through their homes safely – and stay in their homes longer.

WE SUPPORT NEIGHBORHOODS BY:

CREATING WEALTH
CHS acquires vacant, abandoned, and foreclosed homes to rehab and sell to first-time, low-income homebuyers.  Homes are repaired to like-new condition with updated construction systems, energy efficient appliances, and HVAC systems that meet Systems Vision or Energy Star standards.  This allows homebuyers who qualify for financing to build an important asset: home equity.

STABILIZING NEIGHBORHOODS
CHS conducts several events each year that are designed to help stabilize     neighborhoods.  Operation Inasmuch in High Point and Paint the Town in Greensboro engage the wider community through volunteerism, focusing on one neighborhood at a time.  Home repair “blitzes” not only lift property values for the homeowners, but the entire neighborhood as well.

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS
CHS provides a space and opportunity for diverse communities to work together and, literally, be invited into home repair recipients’ homes.  We take seriously the need to establish and build trust and understanding in Guilford County and we allow this need to guide our work.
