CHS is pleased to have been selected to partner with William Mangum on his annual Honor Card campaign. William Mangum Artist was encouraged to support the mission of CHS after we helped improve the home and quality of life of his friend James Canady.

Since Mr. Mangum first introduced us to Mr. Canady earlier this year, our construction team has been hard at work making critical repairs to keep his home warm, dry, and safe. In addition to replacing the deck, railing, and stairs at the back of his house, we've also replaced his roof, installed carbon monoxide monitors, repaired water leaks, and reconnected ductwork in the crawlspace. We are grateful to all our supporters who made these projects possible! You can learn a little more about this special friendship and how it inspired the campaign by visiting the Honor Card homepage: https://www.thehonorcard.com/

How Honor Cards Work
For a minimum donation of $5, you can purchase an Honor Card to send to a family member, friend, or loved one. Inside will be a note that reads, “A gift has been given in your honor to Community Housing Solutions. “Honor cards are more than the perfect gift for that hard-to-shop-for person in your life. It’s a real and tangible way to support our mission and give back to your neighbors. Throughout this campaign, 100% of the proceeds raised through the Honor Card campaign will go directly to CHS.

About William Mangum
With an illustrious career that spans more than four decades, Mr. Mangum has earned his reputation as one of the foremost landscape artists of his time. Over the years, he’s added author and publisher to his resume, showcasing his talent with eight books, two films, and a one-person exhibition at the North Carolina Museum of History, along with Fortune 500 brand partnerships and keynote speaking engagements. While all of these accolades are impressive, Mr. Mangum is most interested in using his artistic abilities to help others. Since its inception 35 years ago, his Honor Card campaign has helped raise more than $10 million for local non-profits and agencies across North Carolina. In 2023, he selected CHS as the benefactor of his Honor Card campaign, helping CHS as we work to make Guilford County homes warmer, drier, and safer. The 2023 Honor Card
This special greeting card was painted exclusively for CHS by William Mangum Artist. Proceeds from the sale of this card totaled more than $138,475 that was donated to CHS! Thank you to all who purchased cards and supported the Holiday Card campaign.

“Safe Haven” is a painting of two beautiful nuthatches in a gorgeous winter landscape. One is perched on the ledge of a sweet, cozy birdhouse while the other is balancing on a nearby tree. The two birds are turning to chirp to one another while snow falls gently all around them.

In this one scene, Mr. Mangum symbolizes three very important ideals that closely align with our mission.  First, there’s the sense of shelter that the birdhouse represents. At CHS, we believe that all of our neighbors deserve access to a warm, dry, safe place they can call home. We provide critical repairs to improve accessibility, address heating issues, and fix plumbing problems/water damage to improve their residences and their quality of life.

Next, the birds represent the power of community support. We can’t meet the wide scope of local needs alone. We rely on our partnerships with local businesses, faith groups, and civic organizations to help us fulfill our mission. Our work is TEAMwork, and we strongly believe that we’re better together.

Finally, the snow falling against a blue sky signifies the storms that many of our neighbors are facing, and the hope that lives on the horizon. CHS seeks to bring joy and light to each resident, understanding the confidence and assurance that a sturdy home can bring.
